Joseph

-
Current Grade: Grade 5
Current School: Langáta Barracks
Living Arrangement: Otiende Boys Safe House
Status: Total Orphan
Bio: Teacher
Joseph Likhako is a bright and resilient Grade 5 pupil who has endured extreme hardship from an early age. A total orphan, Joseph lost both of his parents when he was very young. At just 2½ years old, he was taken in by a woman married to his paternal uncle—a woman who is not related to him by blood. Though she initially cared for him, over time, she began to neglect and mistreat him.
Joseph was left alone for long periods in a dilapidated mud house with no proper roof. He often relied on kind neighbors for food and support. His dire situation caught the attention of the area chief, and the woman was eventually incarcerated for child neglect. During her incarceration, Joseph was placed in a home care centre, where he continued attending school under the government’s watch.
Upon her release, the woman was legally required to take Joseph back into her care, but it became evident that she neither wanted nor cared for him. When Wanawake Kwa Wanawake learned of Joseph’s suffering, the organization intervened and placed him in the Otiende Boys Safe House, where he now has a secure environment to grow and thrive.
Joseph is passionate about learning and consistently attends school. He enjoys athletics, especially running, and participates actively in games like football and handball. Despite his traumatic experiences, Joseph remains hopeful and focused on his education. He will be running in a marathon on July 6th, 2025.
However, Joseph needs comprehensive support—psychological, emotional, physical, and educational. Sponsoring Joseph’s education will not only help him heal from past trauma but also empower him to grow with dignity and become a responsible, self-reliant young man. With the right support, Joseph can truly have a chance at life equal to any other child.

Mishel’s father, formerly a casual driver, lost his job this year and is struggling to find work, while her mother left the family. Now, Mishel and her sibling are cared for solely by their father, who faces great difficulty meeting their basic needs. -
Aged 14
Musa is a bright, kind, and determined young boy with a dream of one day becoming a teacher. He is the third-born in a large family of nine children. Originally from Kajiado, his family lived as traditional pastoralists, relying on livestock for survival. However, years of recurrent drought and famine devastated their livelihood, forcing the family to leave their ancestral home in search of new opportunities. They eventually settled in Kibera, where life has been extremely challenging.
In Kibera, Musa’s parents struggle daily to provide for their large family. They take on precarious and low-paying jobs, earning just enough for the most basic needs. The income is hardly sufficient to cover food, shelter, and medical care, let alone school fees for nine children. As a result, education often becomes a distant dream for Musa and his siblings.
Despite these struggles, Musa remains motivated and focused on his education. His favourite subject is English, and he dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. Musa sees teaching not only as a career but also as an opportunity to share knowledge, uplift others, and inspire children like himself who face hardships.

Eugene Mureri is a bright and motivated 14-year-old boy in Grade 7. With a passion for learning and a dream of becoming a teacher, Eugene hopes to inspire other children in his community to pursue education and transform their futures. He lives with his parents and five siblings in a small, overcrowded room. His father picks up casual construction jobs, and his mother does laundry when she can find work. Despite their efforts, the family often struggles to cover basic living expenses and has even spent nights outside due to unpaid rent. Eugene’s education has been interrupted multiple times because his parents could not afford school fees. Still, he remains resilient and optimistic, believing education is his path to a better life.
-
Gabriel is a bright and humble boy with a big dream — he wants to become a doctor one day. He lives with his parents and siblings in Kibera. His father works as a guard at the outside gate of the Wanawake Kwa Wanawake property, a position supported by contributions from the estate occupants, including WKW. Unfortunately, the pay is very little and hardly enough to support his family’s basic needs.
Gabriel is the last born in a struggling family of four children. Their educational journey paints a clear picture of the challenges they face. The firstborn managed to reach Grade 8 and dropped out, the second-born girl could not join high school due to lack of fees, and the third-born completed Form Four but is now home, still searching for opportunities.
When speaking with Gabriel’s mother, she expressed joy and hope upon learning about the Buildher program, which might offer her daughter a chance to train and gain a skill for employment.
Gabriel currently attends New Life Integrated School, a small school run by the Mother Teresa Brothers and Sisters to support children whose parents cannot afford school fees. Sadly, the school is under-resourced and lacks government-trained teachers. While the institution offers a place for learning, it cannot provide the quality education that Gabriel deserves.
Gabriel’s situation reflects the deep financial hardship his family endures, yet his dream and determination shine through. Any educational support extended to him would go a long way in transforming his life and giving him a chance to realize his dream of becoming a doctor
Elcy
Julius
-
DOB: 27/10/2012
School: Olympic Primary
Grade: 7
Age: 13 Years
Favourite Food: fish, maize and beans, Rice, Meat, Chapati
Favourite Game: skipping rope, Hide and seekElcy is a happy and hopeful young girl living with her mother, father, and five siblings in Kibera slum. She is enrolled at Olympic Primary School, a local public school serving children from very vulnerable backgrounds. Despite her strong desire to learn, Elcy miss school frequently due to her family’s severe financial challenges. At the time of a recent home visit, Elcy was found at home together with her sister, who should be joining Grade 10 but has also been forced to stay home because their parents are unable to afford school-related costs.
Elcy dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. She is passionate about education and understands that schooling is her only path to breaking the cycle of poverty facing her family. However, she feels helpless and discouraged when she is unable to attend school while her peers continue with their studies.
Her father survives on occasional odd jobs within the slum, earning very little and inconsistently. His income is not enough to meet the family’s basic needs, including school fees, rent, medical care, and daily necessities for eight family members. Elcy’s mother is a stay-at-home parent, unable to secure employment, and fully dependent on the father’s irregular income.
Elcy’s situation clearly shows a child with strong motivation and potential whose education is at serious risk due to poverty alone. She is humbly and earnestly appealing for education sponsorship, which would restore her hope, keep her in school consistently, and help her work toward her dream of becoming a teacher and transforming her future.

Julius is a bright, cheerful boy with a beautiful smile that reflects his resilience and hope. He is currently in Grade 2 at Mother Teresa School, a preparatory school located in Kibera slum. The school serves children from extremely vulnerable backgrounds whose parents or guardians cannot afford fees in mainstream schools. Unfortunately, the school only offers education up to Grade 3, after which learners must transition elsewhere.
Julius did not attend school earlier in his life due to very difficult circumstances. He is an orphan—his mother passed away, and he has no knowledge of his father. Following his mother’s death, Julius was left in the care of his aunt, who is doing her best despite limited resources. It was his aunt who brought him to our attention so that he could be given a chance to learn.
Because of these challenges, Julius has already fallen behind compared to other children his age. However, he shows great potential and a willingness to learn when given the opportunity.
An education scholarship would be life-changing for Julius. It would enable him to transition from the preparatory school to a mainstream school, where he can access quality education, stability, and a supportive learning environment. This support will not only secure his education but also give him hope for a brighter and more dignified future

Dorcas is a young, hardworking, resilient and ambitious girl. She is filled with hope for a brighter future, dreaming of one day becoming a doctor. She dreams of being in a dormitory, a safe space that would keep her away from the risks of early marriage and give her the chance to focus on her studies and bring her closer to her dream. Queeneltrizer is a bright and determined student whose cheerful face reflects courage despite the many hardships she faces in life.

Diana
Gregory
-
DOB: 18/11/2016
Age: 9 Years
Grade: 3
Background:
Diana Olodidio is a young Maasai girl living with her parents and siblings. The family resides in their Kibera community, where they navigate the challenges of daily life within the Maasai culture. Diana's upbringing is rooted in her cultural heritage, where family bonds and support are paramount. Diana needs educational help in order to realise her dreams of becoming a nurse.
Current Situation:
Diana is currently in urgent need of educational support. She was previously attending school through a sponsorship program, but unfortunately, this support has ceased. As a result, she now stands on the verge of dropping out of school.
If this happens, Diana faces a very real and difficult risk. Coming from a Maasai cultural background where girls’ education is often not prioritized, she may be forced into early marriage or required to remain at home to care for her siblings. This would significantly limit her future and prevent her from realizing her full potential.
Diana is a determined and hopeful young girl with a clear dream of becoming a nurse. She understands that education is her pathway to a better life—not only for herself but also for her family and community.
A sponsorship opportunity, especially one that includes placement in a dormitory, would be life-changing for Diana. In a stable boarding environment, she would have access to regular meals, a safe and clean place to live, and the opportunity to focus fully on her studies without the pressures and risks present at home.
Supporting Diana now is not just about keeping her in school—it is about protecting her future, preserving her dignity, and empowering her to pursue her dream. With your help, she can continue her education and grow into a confident, independent young woman who will one day give back to her community as a nurse.
Diana will deeply appreciate your support, as it offers her hope, stability, and the chance to build the life she dreams of.
N/B: Diana is pictured in her school uniform because she was sponsored and in school.

DOB: 22/12/2014
School: Charles Lwanga Kibera
Age: 12 years
Grade: 5
Dream: Teacher
Her younger brother, Gregory Ochieng, born on 22nd December 2014, is in Grade 5 at Charles Lwanga School in Kibera. Gregory is a hopeful and spirited boy who dreams of becoming a teacher. Both children have no father and rely entirely on their mother, who struggles with mental health challenges.
Their mother is a hardworking woman who, despite her condition, strives to provide for her children. She currently survives by hawking pieces of melon on commission, earning very little at the end of each day. Previously, she washed clothes for a living, earning about 300 shillings a day, but lost this source of income after her employer passed away. The weight of providing for her children, combined with her mental health struggles, has left her overwhelmed and at times unable to care for them consistently.
When I met her, she appeared deeply distressed but open about her situation. She shared her frustration of trying to balance work and care for her children, often feeling like giving up due to the pressure. The children are sometimes left at home unattended, which further disrupts their schooling and wellbeing.
Mercy and Gregory have been significantly disadvantaged due to their unstable home environment and lack of consistent parental support. Their education has suffered, and they are at risk of falling further behind without urgent intervention.
Providing these children with access to a stable boarding environment would greatly transform their lives. A dormitory placement would ensure they receive proper care, regular meals, and structured learning, including evening classes to help them catch up academically. It would also relieve their mother of the constant pressure, allowing her space to stabilize her own situation.
Mercy and Gregory are both deserving, hopeful children who, with the right support, have the potential to overcome their circumstances and build meaningful futures. Your support would not only restore their access to education but also give them dignity, stability, and hope.

AGE: 12 years

Grade: 5
Favourite Game: Rope skipping, Netball, Foot ball
Favourite Food: Rice, chapati, beans, Chicken, Milk
Dream: Teacher
Faith Chemtai is a bright and resilient young girl currently in Grade 5. She is the last-born child in a family that has faced deep hardship and instability.
Faith was lovingly supported by her grandmother, Margaret, who became the family’s pillar after Faith’s parents’ marriage collapsed due to her father’s alcoholism and domestic violence. Fearing for her safety and that of her children, Faith’s mother fled to her mother Margaret’s home with all four children. Shortly after they left, Faith’s father sold the small piece of land that had been the family’s only source of food and livelihood, leaving them with nothing to return to.
Despite being elderly and in poor health, Margaret took in her daughter and grandchildren and struggled to provide for them. Even while ailing, she remained committed to Faith’s education and ensured she stayed in school. Sadly, Margaret passed away on 9th September 2025, leaving Faith extremely vulnerable and without stable care.
Following Margaret’s death, Faith’s mother entered a new relationship and has since shown little concern about Faith’s wellbeing or schooling. With no reliable parental support, Faith’s great-aunt (Margaret’s sister) stepped in out of compassion. She has done her best to keep Faith in school, but she is already overstretched and finds it very difficult to manage school fees and other educational needs.
Faith is a good and hardworking student who loves school and dreams of building a better future through education. However, her home situation is unstable, and she lacks consistent provision of food, care, and supervision. A school sponsorship, especially one that can support her in a boarding/dormitory setting, would provide her with:
· Regular meals
· A safe and stable environment
· Consistent school attendance
· Relief for her struggling guardian
During school holidays, her great-aunt is willing to take care of her, but she cannot manage the financial burden of education alone.
As the youngest child in a fractured and struggling family, Faith is highly disadvantaged. Yet she remains hopeful, determined, and committed to her studies. With the right support, she has the potential to rise above her circumstances and achieve her dreams.
Why Sponsorship Is Urgent
Without immediate support:
· Faith risks being sent home for lack of school fees
· She does not have guaranteed food or stable shelter
· Her education may be interrupted at a very critical stage
· She could easily be forced into child labor or early dependence due to neglect
A boarding school environment would give Faith daily meals, safety, structure, and the chance to focus fully on learning something she no longer has at home.
How the Sponsorship Will Be Used
Sponsorship support will help provide:
· School fees and learning materials
· Boarding/dormitory care for food, accommodation, and supervision
· Uniforms and basic personal needs
· Stability during the school term, while her great-aunt cares for her during holidays
Your support will not only keep Faith in school — it will give her safety, dignity, and a real chance to break free from the cycle of neglect and poverty.
Sylvanus
-
Age: 14 years
Class: Grade 7
Favorite Color: Yellow
Favorite Food: Ugali and Vegetables
Favorite Subject: Mathematics
Favorite Game: Soccer
Bio:
Sylvanus Ochieng is a bright and jovial young boy whose warmth and kindness are immediately felt by those around him. He is disciplined, hardworking, and carries a deep sense of responsibility beyond his years.
As the firstborn in his family, Sylvanus has had to take on significant responsibilities at a very young age. Despite his love for school, he has often been forced to stay at home to care for his two younger brothers and engage in small jobs within the neighborhood to help meet their basic needs.
Sylvanus’s life has been marked by hardship. His mother abandoned the family when he was still very young, leaving him and his siblings in the care of their father, who struggles with alcoholism and relies on irregular menial jobs for survival. The limited and unstable income has made it extremely difficult to provide for the family, often depriving Sylvanus of consistent access to education.
Recently, Sylvanus and his brothers were left without proper care and have since been taken into the Otiende Boys Safe House, where they are now finding some stability and protection.
Despite these challenges, Sylvanus remains hopeful and determined. He dreams of becoming a teacher one day—a goal inspired by his love for learning, especially mathematics, and his desire to make a difference in the lives of other children.
Sylvanus is in urgent need of an education scholarship. With the right support, he has the potential not only to transform his own life but also to uplift his family and contribute positively to his community.
