Cosmos

Cosmas Ewalan is a determined and visionary young man from Turkana County, one of Kenya’s most marginalized and arid regions. Growing up in a humble family that struggled to meet even the most basic needs, Cosmas's life was never easy. Many times, he had to miss school because of a lack of school fees, yet he remained focused on his dream of becoming an electrical engineer. His resilience and commitment paid off when he completed high school with a C- (minus) in his KCSE examinations, a great achievement considering the hardships he faced.
After finishing school, Cosmas stayed home to herd cattle and support his family. In Turkana, where cattle rustling is common and young men are often drawn into dangerous activities, he feared that he might be lured down that path. But Cosmas was different. He held on to his belief that education could change his life and the future of his community. With courage and determination, he left his rural home and travelled to Nairobi in search of opportunity.
Upon arrival, he visited Wanawake Kwa Wanawake (WKW), Kenya’s Women for Women Center, and humbly asked for a chance to study ICT. Although he joined the class late, his hard work, humility, and passion for learning quickly made him stand out. Through discipline and dedication, he rose to become one of the best students in his class. His creativity shone brightly, and his graphic design projects even went on to win class awards. His trainer describes him as respectful, talented, and incredibly focused on his goals.
Having completed his ICT training successfully, Cosmas now dreams of pursuing a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a course that will enable him to combine his passion for technology with practical skills that can benefit his community. His goal is to return to Turkana and contribute to rural electrification, helping to bring power and light to areas that have long been left behind. He also hopes to train and mentor other young people, encouraging them to embrace education and avoid the cycles of poverty and conflict that have affected their region.
Cosmas’s family depends on small, irregular sources of income from livestock and occasional casual work. There is little left to support his education. Without financial assistance, his dream of becoming an engineer remains far from reach. Yet his spirit remains unbroken, and he continues to believe that one day, someone will see his potential and help him take the next step.
Supporting Cosmas is more than paying school fees; it is giving hope to a young man who has fought against all odds to change his story. It is investing in a future engineer who wants to light up homes, hearts, and minds in Turkana.

Aged 14
Musa is a bright, kind, and determined young boy with a dream of one day becoming a teacher. He is the third-born in a large family of nine children. Originally from Kajiado, his family lived as traditional pastoralists, relying on livestock for survival. However, years of recurrent drought and famine devastated their livelihood, forcing the family to leave their ancestral home in search of new opportunities. They eventually settled in Kibera, where life has been extremely challenging.
In Kibera, Musa’s parents struggle daily to provide for their large family. They take on precarious and low-paying jobs, earning just enough for the most basic needs. The income is hardly sufficient to cover food, shelter, and medical care, let alone school fees for nine children. As a result, education often becomes a distant dream for Musa and his siblings.
Despite these struggles, Musa remains motivated and focused on his education. His favourite subject is English, and he dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. Musa sees teaching not only as a career but also as an opportunity to share knowledge, uplift others, and inspire children like himself who face hardships.
